Your success in algae treatment depends on knowing what’s happening in the water body. You need to keep a close eye on the water quality and act in anticipation of future problems to keep your water free of algae-related problems.
Solutions for large water bodies
Monitoring Buoy
Getting an accurate overview of your water quality is feasible with the LG Sonic Monitoring Buoy, which is designed specifically to make real-time water quality monitoring possible. The buoy monitors key water quality parameters, such as chlorophyll-a, phycocyanin, pH, turbidity, temperature, and dissolved oxygen, in real-time. It sends this data to MPC-View online software, where you can access it from anywhere, even your iPhone. The software is user-friendly and it’s being updated with new data every 30 minutes. This means you never have to go out into the field for manual measurements. You’ll always have the latest water quality information at your fingertips, accessible whenever you need it.
The Monitoring Buoy is anchored in the water to ensure a stationary position. It’s resistant to extreme weather—there’s no need to remove it during wintertime and you still receive reliable data. Based on all the collected information, the MPC-View predicts algae blooms days before they occur. It also alerts you by email when a bloom is likely to occur, so you can act immediately and avoid service slow-downs or shut-downs. The Monitoring Buoy can be upgraded with ultrasound to treat algae blooms.
MPC-Buoy
Your ability to keep harmful algal blooms under control depends on the tools that you have at your disposal. You must be able to deal with such blooms before they appear to prevent them from overwhelming your water and operations.
The MPC-Buoy was designed for that. It’s the all-in-one solution for algae bloom management, suited for large water bodies. This system monitors, predicts, and controls algae in real-time. Basically, it works just like the Monitoring Buoy, but it also provides ultrasonic algae treatment. This means, on top of its monitoring and predictive capacities, it emits specific ultrasonic programs into the water to stop algae from forming blooms. The MPC-View gathers all this data in charts and tables. If water conditions change, the buoy automatically modifies the ultrasound program to ensure ongoing, effective treatment against algae. Here you can read more about how the adaptive ultrasonic programs work.
This treatment method is safe for people, pets, fish, plants, and the environment. It uses low-power ultrasound that doesn’t cause cell lysis; it only interferes with the algal lifecycle. Thus, it prevents the algae from rising to the water surface to perform photosynthesis. As a result, they sink to the bottom and decompose without releasing harmful toxins into the water.
The MPC-Buoy is a unique solution, capable of eliminating harmful algae blooms while protecting the aquatic life.
Algae treatment for smaller water bodies
Are you experiencing algae-related problems or biofouling issues in smaller water surfaces? The Industrial Line or e-line might be for you.
LG Sonic Industrial Line
Industrial Wet
The Industrial Wet emits specific ultrasonic frequencies that control algae growth in smaller water bodies, such as irrigation reservoirs, cooling basins, and other industrial applications. Read how Sellafield installed these systems in the storage ponds of their nuclear power plant in Seascale, United Kingdom.
Industrial Dry
The Industrial Dry applies ultrasound to prevent biofouling and chemical usage in applications such as cooling towers, sea chests, heat exchangers, and pipes.
Both the Industrial Wet and Dry systems are easy to install and require minimal maintenance on your part.
LG Sonic e-line
The e-line is suited for lagoons, golf course ponds, and small irrigation reservoirs. It emits targeted ultrasonic programs into the water body. These programs can be changed remotely via SMS. The e-Line is easy to assemble and fast to deploy.
With the help of the Flexi-arm, you can speed up the assembly process. The Flexi-arm can be extended up to 20 m / 66 ft, it moves up and down with the water level and can be connected to the shore.
Add-ons that boost your algae treatment
Vertical Profiling System
To succeed in controlling algae blooms and to keep operations going, you need to understand your entire water column, not just its upper layers. Most water quality monitoring stations only take readings at the water surface. These tools offer good information about what’s happening in the water, but they don’t provide the full picture.
Understanding your water body is possible with the LG Sonic Vertical Profiling System—a measuring solution designed for that purpose. Surface readings give information about sources coming in from streams, wastewater discharge, creeks, and so on. Yet, what leaches from the sediments remains unknown. The same applies to algae growth. By measuring algae at different depths, you can better understand their behavior, distribution in a water column, and total concentration, so that you can apply the most efficient treatment.
Our vertical profiler can be combined with the MPC-Buoy for algae treatment. It’s easy to install and can be maintained from a boat. All the collected data is stored in the MPC-View software, and it’s updated every 10 minutes.
PO4 Sensor
Nutrients, such as nitrogen and phosphorus, are essential in any aquatic ecosystem. Yet, their overabundance may cause adverse effects, such as fueling the proliferation of harmful algae blooms.
The source of phosphate (PO4) in a water body can vary. It can flow into the water from external sources or can be leached from the sediments. Knowing where it comes from and in what quantity is essential, as it enables you to make informed treatment decisions.
Our PO4 sensor is designed with the customer in mind. The advanced lab-on-chip technology provides highly accurate readings of phosphate at different depths, enabling you to gain a complete phosphate profile of the water body. The automatic calibration ensures accuracy with each measurement and the continuous self-cleaning feature reduces the need for on-site maintenance. The system is set up to monitor and send data remotely to the MPC-View.
Weather Station
Algae blooms are influenced by various factors, including weather patterns. To predict blooms with more accuracy, a weather station can be installed on top of the MPC-Buoy. The station gathers meteorological information, such as solar irradiation, wind speed and direction, air temperature, and precipitation, and sends this data to the MPC-View in real-time.
Combined with the other LG Sonic monitoring solutions, you have the complete toolkit for understanding your water quality.
